This is the heart of what we do! Our doctors are trained in a variety of techniques including (but not limited to) Diversified, Thompson, Activator Method®.
Diversified Technique is the technique that has been in use since the beginning of chiropractic. With this technique the Doctor uses their hands to adjust or align the vertebra that misaligned or subluxated. With this technique there is "popping" or "clicking" of a joint, which is called cavitation. Cavitation is just gas releasing out of a joint.
Thompson Technique involves using a drop table or Thompson table to create an adjustment. The cushions on a drop table or Thompson table are divided into spinal segments. Tables can have up to 4 segments (cervical, thoracic, lumbar, pelvis). The doctor "sets up" on a mis-aligned vertebra similarly to the Diversified technique, but props up the cushion that matches the spinal segment they are adjusting. When the doctor adjusts the spinal segment, the cushion drops down. This technique is more gentle than the Diversified Technique and rarely creates "popping or clicking" of the joint.
Activator Method® uses an instrument called the Activator® . Slightly larger than a pencil, the Activator is a hand held instrument that the doctor places on the spinal segment that is misaligned. The doctor "clicks" the instrument, creating a quick and gentle adjustment of the joint. The joints make no sound with this adjustment. Our doctors use this technique on those who are in a great deal of pain, pregnant, elderly, or very young. It also is useful for extremity adjustments and facial adjustments such as the sinus and jaw.
